Our projects

During Windrose’s 35 year history, a great many media-based projects have been devised and carried out.

Some have used archive films; others have produced original creative and documentary material.

There has been media training for young people and adults, shows and theatrical performances, opportunities for musicians and poets, therapeutic work and much more.

All have involved local communities closely and have produced their own archive of video or audio material.

Windrose continues to devise new projects in response to community needs.

Windrose has no regular income. Funding has to be raised for each project that it undertakes.

Great Western Approaches Revisited

Great Western Railway passengers across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset can now travel back in time via the Windrose archive. Seven lines, 24 stations and more than 30 archive film clips to enjoy, Great Western Approaches Revisited is an exploration of our communities as they used to be and the nearest thing to living history there is.

An opportunity to sample a flavour of English rural life at a community-inspired exhibition centred around mapping ancient field names at Broadwindsor, Dorset.

A Century of Sights and Sounds

This is the major three year project to work on the digitisation, editing and research of the archive that Windrose has collected and created over the last 35 years.
